Description
Most detectors sold today need the coil moving to read a target. The XD machines do not: hold the coil still over something and the tone stays, which makes them unusually good at judging how deep and how big a target is. At ÂŁ199.99 the CS440XD is the cheapest British built route into that, and it is a genuinely different experience from the motion machines at the same money.
What the CS440XD Gives You
Non Motion, and What That Means in Practice
The trade is straightforward. You gain the ability to assess a single target properly, and you give up the running target identification that a motion machine offers while you sweep. If you want to cover a large field quickly and be told what each signal probably is, a motion machine suits you better and our motion detectors page explains why. If you like working a small area carefully, or you are chasing one deep signal, the XD approach rewards that.

C.Scope CS440XD Questions, Answered
How much is the C.Scope CS440XD?
ÂŁ199.99. That makes it the cheapest British built machine we stock and the entry point into the non motion XD range.
What does XD mean on a C.Scope detector?
It marks the non motion models. They hold a target signal while the coil is stationary, which makes them better at judging depth. The MXi models are the motion detectors, for general searching with target identification.
Is the CS440XD good for a beginner?
Yes, with one caveat. It is simple, light and cheap, and the variable discrimination keeps rubbish out of your ears. But most beginners are better served by a motion machine, because being told what a target probably is teaches you faster. See our beginner range.
Can I use it on the beach?
On dry sand, yes, and it is a genuinely good family machine for that. On wet salt sand it will struggle, as all VLF machines do. For wet sand you want pulse induction. Our beach detecting page covers this properly.
How deep will it go?
Six to ten inches on a coin in British soil, like anything at this price. What the non motion design gives you is a better sense of how deep a target actually is before you dig, rather than more depth.
What does variable discrimination do?
It lets you set how much of the rubbish signal the machine ignores. Wind it up on a litter strewn site and you stop hearing ring pulls and foil. Wind it down on clean pasture so you do not reject good targets along with the junk.
Can I still get parts for it?
Yes. C.Scope support their range from Kent and we hold coils and shafts. A machine you can still buy a coil for in five years is worth more than one you cannot.
Does it come with a warranty?
Yes, a full manufacturer warranty handled through us as a UK dealer, so a fault is a phone call rather than a shipping problem.
