The CS1MX at £275 runs on a single PP3 battery and weighs less at 1.153kg. The CS2MX adds All Metal Super Depth Mode and the belt mountable box, and runs on 8 x AA. For £25 the extra mode is worth having.
On dry sand yes, and the 20cm Polo search head is submersible so wet grass, mud and shallow water are fine. Wet salt sand is a different problem that defeats every VLF machine, and the answer there is pulse induction. Our beach detecting page explains why salt behaves the way it does.
The CS3MXiPRO at £399.99, which adds finer discrimination and better handling of mineralised ground. If you are choosing between them, the honest question is whether your permissions are littered with iron. If they are, spend the extra. If not, the CS2MX will find the same targets.
