Edge Detectors

Edge Detectors

In short. The Edge range is our own line of value machines, built to do the ordinary job properly rather than to win a specification argument. It runs £49.95 to £275 and accounts for most of what we sell.

Edge detectors exist because the gap between a toy and a serious machine used to be enormous. These sit in that gap deliberately: stable in British soil, simple to operate, light enough to use all day, and cheap enough that a beginner is not risking much to find out whether they enjoy the hobby.

The Range

Lander XD50, £79.95Our single biggest seller. Two modes, a waterproof coil, headphones and DVDs in the box. The honest entry point.
Edge Tec and Edge-Tec ProEdge Tec £149.95 and the Edge-Tec Pro £179.99. An LCD target display and noticeably better stability in mineralised ground.
Edge-Power, £199.99Edge-Power. More depth and better discrimination, for people who already know they are staying with the hobby.
Reflex G10, £275The Reflex G10. The top of this group, and the machine most people settle on when they want to buy once.

The Pinpointer

Edge Pro Pointer, £49.95The Edge Pro Pointer finds the target inside the hole in seconds instead of minutes. It outsells most detectors on its own.
Why it matters so muchRecovery time is what limits how many targets you get in a session. A pinpointer roughly doubles the number of finds you bring home from the same hours.
Buy it at the same timeAlmost everyone who buys one says they should have done it sooner. It is the single best £50 you can spend on this hobby.
Waterproof tipSealed against wet soil and wet sand, so it copes with riverbanks and beaches as well as fields.

Edge Detector Questions, Answered

Which Edge detector should I buy?

The Lander XD50 at £79.95 if you are testing whether you enjoy the hobby. The Reflex G10 at £275 if you already know you are staying. The Edge-Power at £199.99 is the sensible middle.

Are Edge detectors any good for the money?

For ordinary coin, relic and jewellery hunting in British soil, yes. They are stable, light and simple. What you do not get is multi frequency or ground imaging, and at these prices nobody else offers those either.

Are they waterproof?

The search coils are waterproof on every machine in the range, which covers wet grass, wet sand and shallow puddles. The control boxes are not submersible, so do not take them into the water.

Can I get spare coils and parts?

Yes, we stock coils, shafts and batteries for the current range and we are the people you ring when something fails, rather than an overseas factory.

What is the difference between Edge Tec and Edge-Tec Pro?

The Pro adds finer discrimination control and a little more depth for £30. If you are choosing between them, take the Pro, because the extra control is the thing you will use most.

Do they come with headphones?

The Lander XD50 includes headphones and two DVDs as part of the Sports Pack. For the others, headphones are worth adding, because hearing faint targets properly matters more than almost any setting.

Will an Edge detector find gold?

Gold rings, coins and jewellery, yes, like any decent machine. Small natural nuggets need a high frequency specialist detector, which is a different category entirely.
