C.Scope CS1220XD Questions, Answered
How much is the C.Scope CS1220XD?
£469.99, reduced from £550. It is the top of the non motion XD range and the most capable of C.Scope’s non motion machines.
What is the three mode operating system?
It is built to replicate how professionals actually detect, with three genuinely different ways of working rather than three variations on one. That is unusual, and it is the reason this machine costs more than the rest of the XD line.
What does Ground and Discriminate mode do?
It is a two channel system letting you switch rapidly between a maximum depth normal search and Target ID to check whether something is worth digging. Flicking between the two on a doubtful signal is the fastest way to decide.
What is Meter Disc Search mode for?
The audio channel runs at maximum depth while the meter display gives you information about the target. In effect the ears stay deep while the eyes analyse, which is how you avoid losing faint targets to over cautious discrimination.
What is Hot Control Ground Balance?
Ground balancing for difficult, mineralised ground. On iron rich British clay or over hot rocks that control is what keeps the machine stable enough to hear anything at depth.
What are the specifications?
Non motion at 17kHz, a lightweight 20cm ISOCON waterproof polo search head, around 30 hours of battery life, and 1.63kg including batteries. Guarantee two plus three years.
It is the heaviest XD machine. Does that matter?
At 1.63kg, yes, over a long session. This is a machine for working a small area carefully rather than covering a large field quickly, so in practice the weight bothers people less than the figure suggests.
Who should buy it rather than a motion machine?
Cache hunters and anyone who works a known site thoroughly rather than covering ground. If you want to sweep large fields and be told what each signal is, a motion machine from the C.Scope MXi range suits you better.
What do the audio and meter pre-sets do?
They give you starting points for the discrimination rather than making you build a setting from scratch on every site. You adjust from a sensible base, which saves the first half hour of a session on unfamiliar ground.
Can I fit headphones?
Yes, a 6.3mm quarter inch socket alongside the internal loudspeaker. On a three mode machine where the audio channel runs deep while the meter analyses, headphones are how you get the benefit of that split.
Is it worth the step up from the CS990XD?
If your ground is difficult, yes. The CS990XD at £360 gives you audio and meter discrimination. This adds the three mode system and Hot Control ground balance, which is what keeps a non motion machine usable over hot rocks and heavy clay. On clean ground the CS990XD finds the same targets for £110 less.
Does the search head go in water?
The 20cm ISOCON polo head is waterproof and fitted for deep probing, so wet ground and shallow water are fine. The control box is not, so keep it dry. Wet salt sand needs pulse induction rather than any VLF machine.
