A Relic Machine That Takes Small Gold Seriously
Most detectors are built either for relics or for gold. The F003 is unusual in being set up for relic hunting while keeping high sensitivity to small gold nuggets, which are two quite different demands on the same circuitry.
The relic side shows in the controls: a sophisticated ground balancing system, separate control over signal gain and threshold, and its own discrimination system. Separating gain from threshold is the detail experienced detectorists will notice, because it lets you chase depth without the machine becoming unusable.
It is also built to be straightforward. Assembly needs no tools, the controls are simple, and a three segment battery indicator sits at the top left of the display so you know where you stand before you walk out.
F003 Gold Seeker Questions, Answered
How much is the F003 Gold Seeker?
£899.99, reduced from £999. That places it above the mainstream coil machines and below the long range systems, in the serious hobby and semi professional bracket.
What is it actually best at?
Relic hunting, with genuine sensitivity to small gold as a second string. It is designed to find the smallest targets with superior target separation, which is what relic ground on an old site demands.
What does separate gain and threshold control give me?
Gain sets amplification, threshold sets the level at which the machine speaks. Controlling them independently lets you run high gain for depth while keeping the threshold quiet enough to hear faint signals through it. Machines that tie them together force a compromise.
How does it handle mineralised ground?
It is designed to ignore signals caused by ground minerals and trash, through its ground balancing system. British soil is mineralised almost everywhere, so that is doing real work rather than being a specification line.
Does it tell me how deep a target is?
It identifies a buried metal object and estimates both its size and its depth. Knowing the size before you dig is what stops you opening a large hole for a ring pull.
What is the electromagnetic interference feature?
It estimates the effects of interference from other electronic devices. On a site near overhead lines, a railway or other detectorists, knowing the machine is reacting to interference rather than to the ground saves a lot of confusion.
Is it easy to set up?
Yes. Assembly is easy and requires no tools, and the controls are deliberately simple. The complexity is in what the machine does, not in operating it.
How do I know the battery state?
A three segment indicator at the top left of the display. It is a small thing, but a detector that dies two hours into a permission you drove an hour to reach is a wasted day.
Is it suitable for a beginner?
Not really, at this price. It assumes you can already read a signal and will use the gain and threshold controls properly. Our beginner range from £79.95 teaches you more per pound.
Can it find gold nuggets?
It has high sensitivity to small gold nuggets, which is unusual on a relic machine. For dedicated prospecting a high frequency specialist such as the Nokta Gold Kruzer at £599.95 goes further.
How does it compare with the F001?
The F001 is the entry level machine in that family at a far lower price. The F003 is the one with the relic hunting control set and the small gold sensitivity. They are not the same class of instrument.
Is it good for the beach?
It will work on dry sand. For wet salt sand you want pulse induction, which our beach detecting page explains, or a fully waterproof machine from our Nokta range.

Stunning metal detector, this performs better than anything else on the market today. Only been out a few times but found some great bits.

I can recommend this machine, I had a Minelab Nox before and this outperforms it on every level. Build quality is very high too. First time out I found a nice Lizzy and a crotal bell. Delivery was not the fastest but well worth the wait!
