Description
The GR-3 Plus is the middle of the Groundtech range and the one to pick when 7 metres is not enough and £2,249 is too much. What you are buying over the standard GR-3 is depth: 15 metres against 7. Everything else, the processor, the battery, the weight and the software, is the same, which makes the decision unusually simple.

Why Buy From Us
The standard GR-3 at £1,300 reaches 7 metres if that is enough, and the GR-4 at £1,750 is the next step up. All of them are on our Groundtech page.
GR-3 Plus Questions, Answered
What is the difference between the GR-3 and the GR-3 Plus?
Depth. The GR-3 reaches 7 metres and the GR-3 Plus reaches 15. The processor, battery, 600g weight, software and two year warranty are identical, so the £300 difference buys penetration and nothing else.
How much is the GR-3 Plus?
£1,600. The GR-3 is £1,300 and the GR-4 is £1,750. If you are deciding between the Plus and the GR-4, the GR-4 is generally easier to get good results from.
Does it really scan to 15 metres?
For substantial features in cooperative ground, yes. That figure describes voids, structures and large masses, not small objects. Mineralised and waterlogged ground reduces it. This is true of every scanner on the market.
What does the gradiometer actually measure?
Variation in the magnetic field, at plus or minus 2000 microtesla across two sensors. Comparing two sensors is what lets it separate a genuine buried anomaly from general background, and what lets it tell iron from gold and silver.
Do I need a phone to use it?
You need an Android or iOS device to see the 3D analysis, which is the point of the instrument. It connects over Bluetooth 4.2, so any reasonably recent phone or tablet works.
How long does the battery last?
About eight hours, from a 3.7V lithium ion pack with Type-C 25W fast charging. That covers a full survey day, and it recharges from an ordinary phone charger.
Will it work in British soil?
Yes. Mineralised clay reduces depth, as it does for everything, but gradiometer scanning copes with British ground well because it is reading structure rather than fighting conductivity.
Is it heavy to carry round a site?
600g, which is lighter than most detectors. Over a long survey that matters more than the specification sheet suggests.
