Description

Choosing Between the s3, s6 and s9

We will be straight with you about something. The published technical data for the s3, the s6 and this s9’s sibling is identical: the same 74 by 68 by 200cm passage, the same 70 to 270 VAC supply, the same 10W standby draw, the same 60kg net weight and the same two box delivery. Yet they are priced £2,250, £2,450 and £2,760.

The difference between them is in the detection electronics: how many zones the frame resolves and what sensitivity programmes it carries. ThruScan do not put those figures on these pages, which makes choosing from the website alone genuinely difficult.

So ring us. We will get the manufacturer’s data sheet for the models you are weighing up and tell you whether the step up is worth it for your site, which depends entirely on how many people you move and how precise the follow up search needs to be.

ThruScan s6 Questions, Answered

How much is the ThruScan s6?

£2,450. The s3 below it is £2,250 and the s9 above it is £2,760.

Honestly, what does the s6 do that the s3 does not?

The detection electronics differ, and ThruScan do not publish those figures here. We will not invent a reason for you to spend £200 more. Ring us, we will pull the manufacturer data sheet for both, and you can judge it yourself.

Why are the published specifications the same across models?

Because the three share a frame, a passage size and a power supply. What separates them sits inside, in zone resolution and sensitivity programming. We would rather say that plainly than dress up the shipping weight as a selling point.

Is the mid option usually the right one?

Not automatically, and we would not push you to it on that basis. A small school entrance may be well served by the entry model. A busy stadium gate may need the sX family. The middle of a range is a pricing position, not a recommendation.

What should I tell you when I ring?

How many people pass the entrance in your busiest ten minutes, what you are mainly looking for, whether the doorway is indoors, and how many staff will be on the door. Those four answers settle the model choice faster than any specification sheet.

Can I buy on a purchase order?

Yes. Schools, colleges, councils and NHS trusts order this way routinely. Send us the PO reference and we will raise a formal written quote against it.

How long does delivery take?

It depends on current stock, so we will give you a real date rather than a standard line when you enquire. If you are working to a term start or an event date, say so up front and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.

Does it fit an existing doorway or replace it?

It stands as a free standing frame in or near the opening rather than replacing anything. The practical question is usually whether your existing door swing fouls it, which is worth measuring before you order.

How disruptive is it to the entrance?

Less than people expect once a routine settles. The first week is the hard one, while visitors learn to empty pockets into a tray before walking through. After that it adds seconds, not minutes.

How do I train staff to use it?

Agree one search pattern, write it down, and have everyone follow the same one. Inconsistent searching is what gets challenged, not the equipment. We will go through handover with whoever will run the door.

Should we keep a record of alarms?

Most organisations should, if only to show the policy is applied evenly. A simple log of date, time and outcome is usually enough, and it is far more useful than it sounds the first time a decision is questioned.

What support do you provide after the sale?

We advise on siting before you order, help set the sensitivity sensibly on handover, and handle warranty here in the UK rather than sending you abroad.
