Description
Pulse induction is a different bargain from an ordinary detector. It ignores soil mineralisation and wet salt almost completely, which buys real depth on anything substantial. What it gives up is target identification: you will dig iron. For hoards, relics, meteorites and caches that trade is worth making. For coin hunting in a tidy field it is not.
The Pro3 SE is the top of the Deep Hunter line. Its revised electronics and manual ground balance are what separate it from the standard Pro3, and the 125 by 125cm frame coil is where its depth comes from.

Golden Mask Deep Hunter Pro3 SE Questions, Answered
What is a pulse induction metal detector?
One that sends a short magnetic pulse into the ground and measures how the returning signal decays. Because it is not continuously comparing against the soil, mineralisation and salt stop interfering, which is where the extra depth comes from.
How deep will it go?
Substantially deeper than a VLF detector on medium and large objects, especially with a frame coil. On a single coin the advantage largely disappears, because depth scales with target size whatever the technology.
Can it tell gold from iron?
Only crudely. Two LED lights indicate non ferrous in red and iron in green. That is useful but it is not comparable to the numerical target identification on a VLF machine. Plan on digging most signals.
Do I need two people to use it?
For the large frame coils, yes, they are designed for two. The round coils mount on a stick for single operator use, with less depth. Most owners have both.
What does the TRASH function do?
It selects whether the machine responds to large targets only, or to large and small targets together. On a site littered with small iron, restricting it to large targets is what makes the machine usable.
How long do the batteries last?
10 hours from the rechargeable AA pack, which is a full day. They are standard rechargeable cells, so a spare set is cheap insurance.
What is the warranty?
Five years on the electronics and two years on the charger and coil, handled by us in the UK. That electronics term is unusually long and tells you something about how these are built.
What is the difference between the Pro3 and the Pro3 SE?
The SE has new electronics and adds manual ground balance alongside the automatic system, where the standard Pro3 is automatic only. The SE is the better machine and the one to buy if the budget reaches it.
How much is the Deep Hunter Pro3 SE?
£1,299. That puts it at the top of the Golden Mask range and well above the VLF machines, which is the price of pulse induction depth.
What does boost mode do?
It increases transmit power for extra depth, at the cost of stability and battery life. Use it on quiet ground when you are chasing a deep signal, not as a default setting.
