The 27cm DD is the kit coil supplied with many Golden Mask machines, and it is a sensible all rounder for coin shooting and relic hunting. A closed Double D shell gives it more ground coverage than the smaller coils while staying light enough for ordinary use. If you are replacing a damaged original, this is usually the one.

For most owners it is the replacement for the coil the machine came with. If you want a genuine change in behaviour, go smaller for trash and small gold, or larger for depth and coverage.
It works, as any Double D does, but the Fighter coils are the ones designed specifically for heavily mineralised ground and will run quieter there.
0.570kg, which is mid range. Heavier than the Spider frames of similar size because of the closed shell, and more robust for it.
On dry sand yes. Wet salt sand is about the machine rather than the coil, and our beach detecting page explains what salt does to a detector.

Don’t let the ‘old school’ look of this coil fool you, I use this 10.5” with my GM6 and have had great results. It’s sensitive to tiny and larger objects alike, reaches far deeper than its size would suggest, has reliable iron discrimination and renders clear audio clues as well as accurate VDI readout. It’s very robust design means you’ll have this coil in your kit for years to come. Like me you’ll probably find you buy an extra lower stem and leave attached, you’ll be reaching for it regularly, it’s a great all round coil.
